As I suspected in my last post, my run at this year's Iron Painter competition has come to an end, being defeated by a rather nice entry. While I tend to mope for a bit after a painting competition loss, I've rebounded pretty quickly and am eager to sit down with the paint brush. I suppose being somewhat productive has this effect, as instead of my competition figure being the only model I paint in a year (which has often been the case over the last while), I know that I've got another project in the queue to which to turn my attention.
Speaking of the queue, I once again failed to complete all of my intended projects, finishing only my two Iron Painter entries and the Malifaux Electrical Creation. Though I should perhaps learn from the last two months and opt for a more realistic goal, I like the aspirational perspective.
So, updating my queue for April, my first goals will be to complete the Malifaux Ramos and Steamborg Executioner figures that have been sitting, half-finished, on my desk for over a month now. I still have several more figures to complete before this crew is done, but the addition of these two models to the three that I have completed previously will yield a playable, though perhaps not particularly competitive, force.
Next will be the WWII Germans that I mentioned earlier. Having failed to knock out the specialist groups of this force last month, I'm going to have to paint nearly the entire force this month in order to match the productivity of my opponents. The only pieces that will be remaining for my first game force after this lot will be a Panzer III and a Panzer IV.
Finally, throughout the course of the month, as a break to painting, I will be working on my piece for the Fantasy Flight-sponsored Dust Tactics conversion contest. I had a pretty ambitious original concept, but that has been scaled back a bit to a more modest design as my plasticard skills are far from elite.
So, once again, off I go! Hopefully I'll have pictures of the next figure in the Ramos crew by sometime later this week.
